colors can alter as they grow into adulthood. many of my animals developed stray white hairs. check for cuts on his skin. if one of my dogs gets scratched by a cat {or the fight she and my other dog had when i first got her}, white hairs grow in place of her old black ones.
if you are feeding him a well balanced diet, no medical reason should be of concern. you could add fish oil {or vitamin e} a couple times a week to his diet, but thats probably unnecessary.

Just his coat coming to it's true color as he is aging and growing to adulthood. Just as I went from blond to light brown as I aged so will your dog...................Dennis

I have to agree with Joyce! It is probably white hair which will most likely increase as the pup ages.

Are you sure they are gray, and not white? my puppy has more white hairs, then when we first adopted her
