Q: Why does my dog like to sleep under the covers?

I have a Staffy Bull that does this too. If he's under the covers and I roll over he gets out and lays on top and the next time I move he wants back under. He lays right next to my feet. We've had to learn to share!

I think that is just because maybe your dog wants to be close to you. She may also get cold at night. My cat does that. SHe will paw at the cover. YOu might try like before your puppy comes to lay down with, you might try feeling of her foot pads to see if they feel cold. That of course means the puppy is cold. Or she may just want to be close to you. YOu know cause they can smell our scent and maybe she just wants to be close to you.

My dog sleeps under the covers whether there is anyone in the bed or not. She likes to be covered anytime that she is sleeping and as a last resort will try to cover up with anything that she can find including pulling a cover off of the back of the couch and taking it to her bed.

I have a Dachshund and have learned that this is common for this breed. I think it's more of a denning instenct. They feel safe.

My pups mom likes to sleep under the covers, I think (just as most of the other posters) that its for warmth and to be close to you. There were nights that I didnt want her under them with me and would pretend to be asleep when she got up on the bed, she would touch her cold nose to any bare skin to wake me up and get me to lift the covers for her.

My cat likes to do this too. He paws me in the face when he wants me to lift the covers for him. I think they just like the warmth and being next to their people.

I have a boxer and a boston terrier and they both like to get under the covers. Maybe it is because they have a light coat or it feels like a den.

My dogs like to be covered up in the winter time. My kids think it's funny to have the dog crawl up beside them and snuggle under the covers with them.

My dogs sleep under the covers too! I just figured its because its warm, they're close to me, and it beats the couch in the other part of the house! Sometimes its not the most comfortable for me but I LOVE it! They've got me trained....I can't fall asleep unless they're in their spots! :)

Personally my dogs love to be under the covers too. I think they like it because they get cold so they snuggle under the covers.
