I used to have a dog do that, also! Then, when I moved the bowl to where she would bring the pieces of food, she would bring it to where I originally put the bowl. I even tried a new bowl thinking that was it. But, nope! She always did it. She always ate it so, I was not concerned. I guess some dogs just like to play with their food! lol

I have always gotten the impression that dogs prefer eating off a flat plate rather than a deep bowl. I don't know if it's the sense of their nose being in something too deep or being able to see the food better on a flat plate but any dog I have ever had always eats better on a flat plate. They also like to eat where they have traction, like on a carpet where you don't want them to eat, instead of a slipery surface that is easier to clean. That's just my observation about the bowls but it never fails in my house. They always ate better from a flat plate.

I'm going to be interested in other Zootooer's answers as well. SOMETIMES my dog does this as well and I'm not sure why either. Very good question.
