Q: Why does my cat hide his toys?

When your cat hides his toys, your cat is practicing pronating.

We’re reminded of the old cartoon: The cat waits patiently outside the little hole in the baseboard — then reaches in and scoops out the mouse with a deft flick of the wrist. That dexterous turning movement of the wrist (carpus) is called pronating. If dogs could do it (and could shape their paws into a scoop, as cats do) they’d be better mousers. Undoubtedly, when your cat “loses” a toy in a crevice, he plans to get it out.
