Q: Why does my cat have eye gunk?
My cat seems to always have crusty gunk in his eyes. It's usually from hair getting into his eyes, but I don't understand why it's so bad. His brother's eyes are fine. Could he be allergic to something? Is there any way to stop this?
*Ok I should add that his eyes aren't always gunky, so I don't think it's an infection. He doesn't have upper respiratory or anything like that. I know what that looks like. Plus the gunk is not yellowish like it would be if it were an infection. This is why I thought it could be an allergy or something. It's almost always because he has a hair in his eye. He's a short hair cat, but he does seem to shed more than his brother for some reason. So I guess I'm just asking, how do I keep stray hair from getting into his eyes?! Change his diet to stop his shedding? It doesn't seem to bother him, but it just looks gross some times.

you should definately have your cat vet checked. Eye infections, if left untreated, could lead to loss of vision in the eye. My cat got them frequently for a while and my vet gave me Terraymycin Ointment to have on hand at all times. At the first sign I would start the course of treatment. That may not be your cat's problem but have him checked just in case.
