Why does my cat "dig" all the time?

One of our cats loves to "dig" at doors, blankets, even on our legs. What is she doing and what does this mean?

My cat does this on me and soft fabrics (not on floors or at doors) but i and realized he was sucking on my PJ's or blankets, even my hair. He was taken away from his mother early. I have heard that's how the kittens get the nipple to stick out further out of the fur on the mother cat, it's instinct. My vet said that some cats never give up the suckling. Don't know if that's the case with yours, but I'd watch to see if she's putting her face down onto the carpet after "digging" for a minute, if she does she may be a sucker.

I know from personal experience that my cats HATE having the doors closed to them. They like to be able to roam freely from room to room and if they encounte a closed door they "dig" until I scold them. Also you might want to try getting a scratching post to help them with thier claws. Cats shed their clas periodically and the scratching helps them. If it becomes too problematic or the cat starts going to just one place to scratch that you want them to stop destroying, try a KEEP OFF! spray. It smells really bad to the cats and they wont go back to that area.

My vet says its to shed off the top layer or their nails. If you look at them sometimes they have a layer that will peel off and they need to get it off. He explained that it was like having a hang nail and thats the only way they can get it off.

If she still has her claws, they may need to be trimmed. Our cat does this when his nails get too long.

Well here I am, another person, not with the answer, but wanting to know why. My cat does the same thing. I swear he is acting like a dog digging for a bone or something. I know he was in foster care and I am wondering if he was around some dogs. Anyone know the answer to this?? (sorry to the original asker, guess you asked a good question).

I have a toy poodle that does this also. Before she lays down on her blanket, she has to scratch at it. She also does this on the floor too. I would love to know why also!!

Well I don't know, but wish I did. I have a cat that does this to. Does anyone else have any ideas?
