Q: Why does my bunny eat all of her hay?

I change her chage often and as soon as new hay gets in there she eats it. Why? She winds up with very little left in there to go potty on, any ideas?

If you put the hay into a hay rack, that will help with keeping it clean. They need to continuously graze on timothy hay all day for the health of their digestive systems. Hay should definately not be used as bedding, for the exact reason that they will pee on what they eat. I really like carefresh. It's also recycled paper but it softer than the cat litter type.

My parents built an outdoor resort house for their rabbits, and opted for putting a thin mesh flooring in half of it. Both rabbits poop and eat there where anything small falls through, then go to the other half of the house for just hanging out and sleeping. They keep rags in there since they don't make a mess of them very often.

Yes, again, rabbits eat their hay, it isn't for bedding. I recommend buying a litterbox and some rabbit litter if you want her to use it as a litterbox.

Its natural for a rabbit to eat and defecate at the same time in the same place. I know it sounds gross and unhealthy to you but it’s totally normal and healthy for rabbits. So layer a litter box with newspapers to soak up the urine and put plenty of fresh timothy hay on top for eating. If your rabbit eats it all then give him more! :)Timothy hay should be the largest part of your rabbits diet, with fresh veggies next and a very small amount of pellets.

Jill is absolutely right. Hay isn't for bedding, it's for her to eat. For bedding I recommend recycled paper cat litter (with no perfume smells), because it is cheaper and shredded newspaper. Smores loves to run through all the shredded paper!

HAY is for eating. If your bunny is an adult, she should be getting timothy hay. You can use other things for bedding. Its great that she is eating hay, its great for bunnies.
