Q: Why do my cats spray when the petsitter comes?

We have a mega cat household. When we were preparing to go on vacation and the sitter came to review someone peed in the entry way. 2 days into our 2 week vacation our sitter called and said the boys were marking the chairs, library area and other places. When we came home it stopped. What's up with these guys.

Sometimes they do this just to show their displeasure with your leaving them. My uncle's cat did this every time he went away on vacation no matter who watched him, even if it was a family member who spent lots of time with him anyway. He even started going in the suitcases everytime they got them out because he knew what they represented. He just didn't like them to abandon him & this was his way of telling them about it.
I have a female who will stop using the litter box when we leave. She also will refuse to allow us to touch her when we return. I have another who hides from us the entire time we're preparing for a trip & for a few hours after we return. Its just their way of telling us they're not happy with us for leaving them.

They felt threatened by her. Male cats do this mainly. Are your boys neutered? Even though male cats are neutered they my still spray though it is more common for un-neutered and males neutered late. I would try the pheromones, they may work, but I don't think the cats are necessarily anxious.

Are the people watching your house male? Your cats could be feeling territorial. Try pheromone spray, it works very well.
