Q: Why do dogs scratch the ground after going potty?

All of my male dogs scratch the ground with all four feet after going to the potty. Does anybody know why? Do they have scent glands in their toes?

I just have a guess that it is a way of making their territory ans showing their dominance by the action.

good question. Our Silky does that, too. We thought it was a macho thing. Wonder, do females not do that?

Yup. Female dogs do it too. At least our two Aussies do, but not all of the time. Can't figure out why.
