please don't think i am a nut but i just need some advice.my 2 dogs are my life.i do not have children so... does anybody know of any places that i could secure ahead of time to find a good home for my dogs in the event something happens to me.i am only 40 years old but working in the ems field i see how we just never know when it's our time to go.i have a $50,000 life insurance policy which i have left to my mom.i would consider giving 5-10 thousand to a rescue or place that can guarantee they will find good homes.none of my family or friends will even discuss this with me.and none of them would be able to take them anyway.my female is 100 pounds (amer bulldog) and my male is 55 lbs so needless to say it's not easy to find people to take "big bully dogs" i am from the new york city area. also from my experience with zootooers alot of you guys love your babies as much as i do so i think i came to the right place for advice!! lol!!
update: i found a place in new york called bideawee!! i plan to call them tommorrow.they have exactly what i was asking about.thank you to everyone for the advice you guys are awesome!!

A will is very important, I already have mine done and have everything in place for my pets and now can rest easy knowing that they will be taken care of. When I get my rescue up and running, and it will happen soon, I extend to you, a place for your "big bully dogs". They will have a safe loving place, with room to romp!

I don't have an answer for you. I think someone from the area will be able to "guide" you in the right direction. I'm writing because I give you SO much credit for "preparing" just in case. You're the BEST......because of unpreparedness, many family members land up in the wrong places and alone. Truly hope that you receive some really, really, good pieces of advice.

I know some people leave something in their will about how they want their pets taken care of after they die. Are there any rescues or organizations in your area where you can go to get more information? Any neighbors or co-workers? It's a downright shame that none of your family or friends want to discuss this with you -- I feel this is a VERY important matter, as depressing as it might be, and something that SHOULD be taken care of before someone passes away. Because if something should happen it is already going to be chaotic enough as it is much less with a dog that nobody will know what to do with.

I did a google search for "pets in wills" and found this result from the Humane Society of the United States:
www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/providing_for_your_pets_future_without_you/

Perhaps that can provide some useful information for you!

Good luck, and thank you for bringing this up as this is something very important I think all pet owners should think about, whether they are 105 or 25.
