I have traveled a lot with three dogs throughout the country. Hotels are much more accomodating than they used to be. The dogs are much happier staying with me than in a kennel or at home with a pet sitter.

We take our dogs to the Vet, and board them. It is cheaper and easier all around. That way we are not putting family out.

I have cats & also fel it's best for them to stay in their home. I've been luck & usually have friends who will come by to feed & give them some attention. If they're not available I will use a pet sitter. I don't leave them alone for over 36 hours.

When possible I take my dogs when I travel. Otherwise, my son will take care of them.

I have a friend who takes my cat into her house if I am going to be gone for a period of time. If it is just a short trip three of my friends all have cats and we will take care of the others. At times it is two different houses with a total of five cats. I will take my cat up north to a friends cottage depending on who is staying there.

I leave my cat with a family member! Usually grandma takes great care of my kitty!

I always leave my cat at home and have a wonderful lady in my area that I hire to check on her each day.
She not only checks on her, but she spends about 30 minutes playing with her, grooming her, holding her and leaving cat treats hidden around the house for her to find later.
I strongly recommend, even if you go only for a weekend, hire someone like this - your pet will thank you.

I leave my cats at home. Cat's don't like to be displaced, most of them are more place oriented than people oriented, even if they love their owners. I have someone come in to feed them and clean their litter and talk to them twice a day. I usually use my midlle age child neighbors (12 to 16).

If the destination is within driving distance, I bring my dog with me. If i am flying somewhere, I board him at petsmart
