Q: Who understands my pain?

I've been having Max since he was only 8wks old. Now he is almost 10mos. He look so much like the dog that plays in the Marley and me movie, and he probably acts like him too. I say that because I haven't seen the movie yet. I'm getting ready to change my place of address, meaning I'm moving to Houston Texas as of next week and where I'm going to be staying I'm not allowed to bring Max, and I have no one to keep him. Oh, how my heart aches, I don't want to leave him or bring him to a shelter, all I really want is to take him with me. I'm so afraid he will suffer from anxiety and so will I. Only real doglover understand me, most of my friends who do not have pets say, and I quote, "he's just a dog". I do know this but he's my dog, and I love him so. What should I do?

I feel your pain....
I lived in Houston for 9 years from 1980 - 1989. I would encourage you to look harder for a rental that accepts pets, if you have time.
I couldn't bear to give up any of my pets - ever! Where I go, they go. I would not have taken the job I moved to Iowa for if I wouldn't have been able to find a place I could have my pets. They are such a vital part of me.
Houston is a huge city - there has to be a place that will allow pets. Try city-data.org --- or something like that and see if people can recommend places. Also, Apartmentsrated.com -- or something like that. Do an internet search. Call the Chamber of Congress for relocation information.
Put an ad on here -- I think you can do that. Ask a question re Houston pet friendly rentals - there have to be people from that area here. Ask you employer -- can they recommend rentals?
Is Max a Canine Good Citizen? Could he pass? This might be a way to encourage a landlord to accept Max...plus get vet references and neighbor references. Put an ad in the paper.
Lots of options yet before giving up.
