Definately call the realtor and police. Try to be ther if the police show up. Don't know how they react to abandoned pets in your area. Please don't wait. If it is cold in your area the dog could be freezing and starving.

call the humane society, any shelter or rescue, or the police. you can also call the number on the sign or just nose around the property for more evidence of a dog being abandoned. someone may still live there or the dog may belong to a homeless person who's squatting there. a quick trip through the yard may give you more information than you'd think.
right next to my boyfriends house is an abandoned house where the stray cats like to seek shelter. over the summer, one cat we were just about to bring inside went missing and other than the fact that this house is extremely scary, i had no reservations about walking in. we were very loud about what we were doing in case anyone else was in there {we did end up finding the poor cat in the basement, very sad ending}. on many occasions i've been just inside the door to leave food or beds, or call for certain cats. usually you can safely get very close w/o actually entering.

A lot of good answers on here - I was thinking the police or a local shelter. But the realtor suggestion was a good one too.

I would just call the cops. One time my mom and I were at a restaurant and there was a dog inside a van in the parking lot. no windows down and it was well over 80 outside. We knew that the inside of a car is like an oven! we called 911 and the police responded right away!!!! I dont know what happend to the people. They were an elderly couple. But at least we like to think we hlep save the poodle.

I would call a local rescue group or see if they have a rescue set up such as lost our homes.. There is an organization that was started here for animals whose families lost their home and couldn't keep them. You can call the real estate agent and see if you can help them with the dog so that it goes to a no kill shelter/ rescue

Call the real estate agent on the sign and tell him/her about the dog. They'll know if the place has been abandoned or not. If the dog has been abandoned, you or the real estate agent can call the local humane society, ASPCA, or rescue group. If none of those exist, try the police.
