Q: Which oil/flour should I use for dog treats?
I have just started making treats for my dogs and have found that most recipes have some type of oil and flour. Sometimes it's olive oil, veg. oil, or corn oil. Then it's either corn flour, wheat flour, or white flour. I would like to make a variety of treats for my dogs and my friends dogs but I would like to use 1 type of oil and 1 type of flour instead of buying them all. So...my question is, is 1 type of oil/flour better for my dogs health than the other. I recently read that corn is a main ingredient in most food so we should not use that too much extra. And I heard that some dogs are allergic to wheat. Any help?

Wheat, when it has had the daylights processed out of it, is converted to a form not fit for consumption, thus making it allergenic. Dogs don't naturally seek out and eat grains; the grains and fiber they would get would be from the stomach contents of the herbivores they eat in the wild.
So if you're going to used flour, use unbleached, whole grain wheat, bulgar, quinoa, barley. I would also use olive oil - even though it's a bit pricey, even the corn/vegetable/canola oils you see in the markets have been processed and lightened in color to make them more appealing, and are far down the line in nutrition.
You could also add eggs for elasticity. They are a powerhouse of nutrients and most dogs love them.
