Wisconsin has the same problem, although it is the Democratically controlled govt. that did not sign a law into the books two years ago.
The Wisconsin Humane Society in Milwaukee bought out one puppy mill (lots of $$$) and it still looking for homes for the rescued. The biggest one, however, is still in operation! with the help of the Amish and Mennonites.

the situation is just out of control and so many puppy mill momma's are left helpless when they can no longer produce. I am ashamed of my state and plan to contact my representatives to urge them to get rolling on this.

Current laws don't do much to protect animals in Missouri. The General Assembly has been hesitant to pass laws that would regulate this "industry". Most prefer to let the free market take care of it. So until there is legislative intervention the best we can do is educate the public.

Not far enough, in my opinion. I bought both of my dogs as puppies. One breeder was on the up and up and the other seemed less so. I made myself a promise that I will only get more pets from breed rescue and shelters from now on. If we can't trust our government to protect animals, then we have to step up.

The Humane Society is continually trying to pass legislation to shut these disreptubable ones down. The problem is the Republicans control the State House and Senate and block these laws. We need to change our representatives if we want to have an impact.
