Where do most people 'drop-off' their unwanted pets?

This question came up today... What is the most popular place for people to leave their pets? I found my cat at a rest stop along the highway. Why do some people not go to a shelter? Have there ever been a study on places people leave their pets? It boggles my mind that someone would think side of road over warm shelter with loving care? why!?!?!

This is easier for people and they figure the pet will be picked up right away by someone. Some people put animals next to a shelter.

I live in a semi-rural area, and I see dumped dogs all the time. You can always spot a dumped dog, because most of them will loyally wait on the side of the road for their heartless owner to return. Domestic dogs cannot fend for themselves! It is awful that people just don't care about any other forms of life. It makes you wonder if they treat their human family members in such a callous manner.

I do not nkow how much of an answer this is, but they don't drop them off at shelters because they do not want to deal with the hassel - droppping them off on the side of the road or at a rest stop is an easy way out. Sounds callous, but I do not know of any other answer. I grateful that whoever owned SImba's mother dropped her off at the dorrway of Countryside Vet Clinic and they took care of her while she had her kittens. As a result, we got SImba. I an glad they didn't drop her off somewhere else.
