I want to get my chihuahua some flea meds, heart meds, and angels eyes (to help with that watery eyes). I went on petsmeds.com and they were way too expensive i even went on a Canadian website for cheaper meds...had anyone tried the Canadian meds? are they the same thing as US meds? some one told me that they were different and didnt weork as well.

Investigating is good. Some of these products they sell online come from China. Need I say more. 90 minutes did a program a long time ago, before the dogfood, toothpaste and toy recall. They found the China products to be inferior.

I did some more online investigating for epa approved meds and general information. I came up with Drsfosterandsmith.com which reviewed by others was the cheapest US EPA approved site, requires rx for heartworm. Six doses each of frontlinePlus and heartworm for 27lb dog would cost $100, no shipping costs.Get your vet to give you a refillable prescription, or order 12 months worth to get you through to your next yearly pet visit. This is under $30 more than the autralian site I have been using and would be worth it to put the safety issue to rest. Although, I would like to see some statistics on how many pets become ill or die using Australian petmeds vs US manufacturers, if you love and value your dogs health, this would be a better option. Hope this helps you make a better decision.

Last year my friend and I were interested in using an on-line pet med place to get all our pets' stuff -- HW, flea/tick control, etc. When we placed the order, apparently the on-line place will contact your vet to get an authorization -- we did not know that. The vet called me and said she advised against getting these meds on line. Reason being -- they are not controlled -- they look the same as what the vet provides -- but the analysis and quality controls to prepare the product might differ. The example I was given -- if I used the on-line meds -- and my pet developed HW (God forbid!)-- the on-line med company would not be to blame and would not stand by you. If I used the meds supplied by my vet -- and dog got HW -- the HW med company would stand by their product (b/c product is regulated) and pay for all HW treatments to cure my pet. So -- I XLD my on-line order and paid more for meds thru my vet.

I get my dogs stuff at Joespetmeds.com which I believe is in Austrailia. So far, products have been fresh and there is no shipping. About a third cheaper than petmeds.com. A friend of mine uses them also and for over a year now, no problems with flea and heartworm meds.....Hope this helps.
