O my! I've never heard of doing it yourself! Definitely take them to a vet if it's within the right time frame.

THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE AT THE VET. would you allow a friend to chop off your leg in your living room?? This is surgery and as Jerz mentioned, it needs to be done when a puppy is no more than 3 days old. It is considered SUPER HIGH risk to do to an older dog and VERY VERY painful.

It is a veterinary procedure that should only be done no later than 3 days after the puppies are born. After that nerve endings form and close to the end of the tail.

I would NEVER do docking myself I don't even do dewclaws myself. Get it done by a vet or live with long tailed Yorkies.
