I don't know about specific places, but one thing to consider is how easy it is for renters to also have pets in their rental units. I've lived in places where it is very difficult to rent a place if you have pets, even with a pet deposit. Also, how many vet clinics, pet stores, dog parks, groomers, and pet boarders there are per capita of that city or town. If there is an emergency animal clinic available. I would look beyond whether pets are allowed inside places of business as to available services within a geographic area.

how about any town on marthas vineyard? any place that pays homage to a black dog has to be pet friendly. we use to vacation there when i was a kid and one thing i remember the most was daisy the roof dog - a yellow lab who lived on someones roof {in a non-dangerous way} who would welcome the passerbys. she was like a monument to the island, a tourist attraction, and she seemed to love the attention.

I don't know about any cities Marcello, but I do know that Newburyport, Massachusetts is a very pet-friendly seaside town. We enjoy visiting frequently. Baby is welcomed into the shops. She always meets many new friends, lots and lots of people walk their dogs there. It's alot of fun and everyone stops and talks to you about the animals.

Chicago has Oprah who is a huge advocate for animals in shelters and rescues. She has done a lot, not only to bring exposure to the shelters and rescues in our area, but to also spread that message throughout the country with her shows that deal with pets and animals. I amalso proud to say that Critter Corral, the guinea pig rescue I volunteer with, also serves the greater Chicagoland area by taking in abused and abandoned guinea pigs and finding forever homes for them.

Hey, Marcello, just wanted to say thanks for all you and zootoo does to make this site such a great place!

Even though I don't live there, I would have to say for visiting that Stowe, VT is really pet-friendly. Most hotels there let you keep pets and there are a number of pet daycare places if you are staying somewhere that does not allow pets. Many stores allow dogs inside and even some restaurants let pets in. We even take Rusty!

As for activities, Stowe may be a ski resort but there are so many state parks and other activities to do that include your dog! Bike paths (for walking as well), parks, etc. etc. . . . It is my family's favorite vacation spot in the summer (we aren't the skiing type).
