I feel that those who abuse animals should recieve the same type of punishment that is handed out to child abusers

Under the law, pets are property. If offenses against them become equivalent to those against persons, it's a problem for our already overcrowded prisons. I'm encouraged by the fact that many states, including agricultural ones like mine, have bills currently before their legislatures to increase fines for animal cruelty, some by as much as tenfold. Often the only thing jerks understand is money.

DEF. NEED STRICTER LAWS/PUNISHMENTS IN REGUARDS TO ANIMALS. MAYBE NOT AS BAD AS CHILD ABUSERS BUT PRETTY CLOSE TO IT

I personally think they should be handed the same abuse they gave the animal. Wouldn't that be a near perfect world.

I do think that animal abuse is under-punished. However, child abuse is a bigger deal (though it is also vastly under-punished). Meanwhile, property crimes and fraud get relatively heavy punishments. Animal abuse is a violent crime and animal abusers lack the moral inhibition to harm both animals & people.

We need to give our legislators an earful. People who abuse animals almost always graduate to more severe crimes. Yet, these people only get penalties equivalent to if they parked illigally or a street sweeper ticket. It needs to be considered a felony.

There should be harsher penalities for abusers of people or animals. People get away with to much these days, and they know the penalty is so slight it doesn't matter to them.

I agree. Unfortunately even child abusers don't seem to get much punishment. An abuser, whether of children, spouse or animals, is the worst type of person. And they will just pass it on to their children. I don't know if there is rehabilitation for this.

I think they should go to prision and not be able to be around animals for the rest of their lives! Once an animal abuser, always an animal abuser in my eyes!
