Q: What should I name my new puppy??

Stephanie M.

I will be getting a new puppy at the end of June and I can't decide what I want to name him! He's a half pitbull, half golden retriever, completely brown. I don't have a picture of him to post yet, but I'd LOVE some suggestions for his name! I really love names that have historic ties, but I'm completely open to any suggestions!!!

try babynames.com - i've never been a fan of naming my animals people names {unless its a last name like joplin or navarro}, but there are some great names in this very extensive directory.

I know you said that you like names with historic ties, but I'm not really up on that. Personally, I love "out there" names & not so common names like Twinkle, Twilight, Chanter, Cosmo, Jade, Mimzy, Star, Mystic, etc.

If nothing historic comes to mind, names like those I listed above might be a thought.

Have to agree with the others, watch the pup and a name will come to you. Pesonality can make a big impact in choosing a name. Remember, have some fun with it. I have a friend with a bassett hound named speedy. My Daggett was named after a cartoon, and Kaya was named after a Bob Marley song. Good Luck, and let us know the name!

You can pick out several names for now that you might like but I agree with midwestwoman you should watch your dog for a few days and the right name will come to you.

I have found that I have to observe my new pets for a while to see what name suits them. For example, I had a kitten once I thought was so cute and fluffy white I would name her Muff for the way she looked....but after having her a little while it became apparent Muff was not a good name for her. I ended up naming her Zora, because she was fiesty and brave and had a gray mask like Zoro! I changed the "o" to "a" since she was a female.
