I would like to get a cute little pet, but unfourtantley I have a dog that attacked a small dog that looked like a rabbit. We cannot get another dog because my mom is gone for most of the day and thats not a good situation for either dog. I would like to have an animal to cuddle with that is not a great risk because of my dog. I don't really want a snake or lizard because again I want to cuddle with it, THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

As others have said, I would first suggest training your dog and then work from there. After your dog is more trustworthy around another pet, think about looking for sturdy animals. Find an animal that wouldn't mind a little bit rougher play incase your dog does decide to play hard, but be absolutely positive that your pet will be safe. There's no use in going through the bonding process with a new pet only to have to give it up or lose it because your dog doesn't accept it. Good Luck!

what about a g pig. they are in their cages till you take them out and then you will have the control. i also think the other answers are good. please work with your dog before you bring anything else home.

You can cuddle with a snake or lizard I should know I love all animal's you can even cuddle with a taranula. But I would take some time to train your dog first. I would suggest going to the shelter and picking out three to four possible dogs and cats and then take your dog and intruduce your dog with the other one safe behind a fence or safe in it's kennel same thing with cat inruduction. Your dog may be fine with a dog that is the same size as it. But I made a mistake we had dwarf hamsters three of them and our alley cat Biff we had at the time was not trained and he killed all of them. My dog happens to be spayed but seems to only like dogs that are smaller than her or the same size as her and if they are bigger than her they have to be male dogs for her to get along with them. But we still never know with her. Remamber that any pet is hard work and hamster's go to a good pet store a couple years later I got four more hamsters the man at the pet store told us that they were all female we ended up with one male hamster and 3 pregant female hamsters. Raising baby hamsters is one of the hardest things I have ever had to learn to do. If you live in the right area you could get a pigme goat, a sheep or a pig they can all be trained like a dog and even be trianed to walk on a leash if your dog would get along with them they can even be trained to go potty outside. I know this is what alot of people do when they are allergic to dogs. Also I had a teacher in high school who had a pigme goat he was like a little puppy Mr. Vegh would bring him to school the goat would follow him all over the school with no leash. Mr. vegh said his dog was scarred of the goat the goat chased the dog and was the alpha dog even though he was a goat lol. Good Luck!

Why not spend time training your dog instead? sounds like hes undersociazied, probably under exercised as well. Especially since your mom is gone most of the day, the dog probably doesent get enough attention and it would be selfish to bring another animal into a household, particularly if you have a reactive dog.

It may be that a small animal, like a hamster, would work, but I would spend some time doing research on what this will mean in terms of time, money, etc. From the picture, if that is your dog, he looks like he would be great to cuddle with, my dogs are not small, but they love to cuddle. I am sure your dog would love the attention.

first lets clear up two things:

1. your dog didn't attack another dog by mistake b/c they looked like a rabbit. dogs are less concerned w/looks and more alert to smell, so they knew it was another dog. this suggests your dog may be dog aggressive but...

2. we still don't know if your dog is socialized to small animals. some dogs will only attack small animals, some will only attack dogs, and some will go for either if they didn't grow up around them.

your dog being part catahoula leopard dog means they need early socialization to small animals. it's in their blood to hunt, so bringing in something small and cuddly isn't a great idea. definitely avoid an animal that needs room to run, like a bunny or rat, b/c they could easily get hurt. possibly a hamster, gerbil, or mouse may work b/c although they need time out of the cage, you would never let them roam freely. hamsters are really great pets, but they're escape artists so buy them a very solid cage. i've had the best luck w/golden hamsters and dwarf hamsters as far as cute and cuddly go. mice and gerbils are fun, but are more likely to nip than hamsters are. whatever you choose, be sure they were hand raised so you get the pet you really want.
