Q: What kind of food should my 1 year old dog be on?
He just turned a year old. Im kinda late changing him over because i bought a really big bag of food while living at mother-in-laws. I have been feeding purnia puppy chow he liked that. but when i started putting the dog food in with his puppy chow, he didnt seem to eat it. And also i have to be careful not to get food too high in protein with him being a dalmatian.

The last answer is very good in my opinion... (posted by Jillian T. (dralionagogo). Basically, if you can buy it at the grocery store, it's really not fit to feed your dog... it's the equivalent of us living on nothing but pizza for the rest of our lives... sure, it may cover the food groups, and it may taste good, but that doesn't mean we're getting any actual nutrional value from it; especially long term.
I have fed many different products over the years, and found many that I like; many that the dogs like. I've learned though that what makes my dogs look their very best, gives them the most (appropriate) energy, produces the cleanest and smallest stools, are grain free formulas. I switched a few months back to "Taste of the Wild" ( www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/products/product_benefits/ ) and my dogs have NEVER looked so good! This stuff is amazing! The varieties are completely interchangable (no "transistion" necessary). We started with the High Prairie Bison and Venison, and just bought the Wetlands with Roasted Fowl formula). Another great thing about it is that it's good for all ages... we are getting ready to get a puppy and he will be able to eat the exact same food as my active adult and my senion dogs.
Yes, it seems more expensive that what you're feeding, but keep in mind that when you feed a high quality product, the dogs eat less; as much as HALF as much, because they are getting everything they need in a smaller quantity.
Good luck making the right decision for your dalmation... :-)

my dogs eat purina one for seniors Some of my dogs are not all that old but we were having an issue with crystals in the urine. 4 out of my 7 dogs had it. I had them on one of those high end dog foods. My vet told me to get them off and give them the purina one Lately Ive have found purina one has a different kind called purina one 7 plus I now have all my dogs on it and the actually like it. I have not had and reaccurence of the crystals in about a year and a half almost 2 years. Talk to your vet first. then decide. Years ago when we were kids we had dogs and my parents didnt feed the high end foods and our dogs never got sick and they lived a long tine well into their teens . It just kinda makes me wonder with all the problems are pets are having today. I laso have a cat who eats friskies and 9 lives all her life . she was sick once when she got her shots at a year old she just about died I never got her another shot again She is now 17 and has never been sick a day in her life So I dont care what everyone says about the pricy higher end foods. the old less expensive ones have worked for meBut talk to your vet first then decide what to do
