Lots of folks, including many trainers, seem to prefer herding breeds. why is this? If you have a herding breed, what kind do you have and what do you like about him/her?

Definitely the ACD's. My girl is really well behaved, especially considering I just got her this summer. She was just running loose at a friends house without anybody taking responsibility for her. She has adapted very well to living in the house and loves to travel with me. She doesn't chew on inappropriate items, loves to cuddle, but becomes active when I ask her to. She's is my joy.

We didn't really get our Blue Heeler by choice. We rescued her but she has turned out to be a great dog - energetic-of course -- smart! Actually -she looks like a blue heeler but she is 1/2 Border Collie 1/2 Blue Heeler.

I currently don't own one, but I'd love to own an Australian Kelpie. They're a fascinating breed.

I have a Blue Australian Cattle Dog. I love her because she stays at my heels(hence the name heeler). Another thing is my parents used to breed hunting dogs so I like medium and Large dogs because of all the things I've been taught.

I love the looks and smarts of the Australian cattle dogs. If you leave them to entertain themselves though they can wreck a house in record speed. One famous cattle dog was Skidboot. There are videos on youtube if you'd like to see him.

My favorite herding breed is the German Shepherd. I have had several Shepherds and each one was simply terrific. I do admire Border Collies at the Scottish festivals when they herd the sheep during the demonstrations.
