What is the best way to keep a dog's teeth clean?

Are there any chews or treats out in market that actually clean the teeth?

I have never had much luck with the treats that are supposed to clean teeth, but I did work with my dog, Pickles, until she allows me to "brush" her teeth with the beef flavored toothpaste using a little rubber piece that fits onto my finger with some rubbery nubs on it. She never warmed up to the actual toothbrush, but this device purchased at PetCo is working prett well. Good luck!

There a paste like toothpaste for animals teeth that you can give them, its like peanutbutter stuck to the roof of your mouth...they have to clean and clean before its gone..funny to watch but it works!

Brush

In lieu of brushing, CET chews really do work. They are sold through veterinarians and have an enzyme that breaks down plaque.

Brush his teeth weekly. For a very small puppy you can use a cloth on your figure, then move to a doggie tooth brush and doggie tooth paste. Never used human tooth paste. Dog biscuits are good too. Good luck.

The best way to keep teeth clean is to get your dog used to brushing. You have to start in small steps, getting him/her used to having mouth examined, and touching the teeth. Use doggie toothpaste, never human toothpaste. There are dental cleaning kits at pet supply places, I like the one from Doctors Foster and Smith. Also dry crunchy food, biscuits and I like to provide a Nylabone for chewing.

Go to you local pet store and purchase a dog toothbrush and toothpaste, my dog loves getting her teeth brushed. They also have brushes you stick on your finger, they are probably a bit easier!! :)
