Q: What is the best type of dog to buy for a 3yr old boy and 9 yr. old girl

My son is the rowdy type and my daughter tends to be scared of animals. I feel like I need a cross between one that can handle a tough and tumble boy but in return not freak out my somewhat timid 9 yr. old.

First let me beg you to ADOPT not buy! I would research diggerent breeds adn find which personality works best for your family and schedule. THere are some dogs that a small kids no nos! On the other hand there are several great family dogs! Pugs, beagles, labs, boxers, ect... there is a lot of dogs to look at in shelters... Good luck and God Bless you

Adoption is the best way. We adopted are Cassie (Border Collie/Lab Mix), and she is wonderful, both rowdy, and sweet. Perfect for our family. Much luck to you in finding the perfect addition to your family.

Some times bigger is better! small dogs might snap if they feel threatened by your rough-and-tumble son,and with big dogs the temptation to pick them up(and possibly scare/drop them!)is totaly illimanated. I would suggest a calm bigger dog, that wont scare your daughter, either. Just so you know, I got a doberman at 3yrs. and he was one of the calmest, sweetest pets I've had I know have had 2 dobies, and now own 3 pitbulls, also awsome dogs!
