Q: What is some good food to feed your guinea pigs?
Jan 10, 2009
The most important foods to feed guinea pigs are the pellets and hay. I feed mine Cavy Cuisine which is a timothy hay (no alfalfa) based pellet. Kaytee also makes one that is made with timothy hay, but mine prefer Cavy Cuisine. Unlimited hay is essential. I feed them timothy, oat, orchard grass as the three top ones. I never give any alfalfa to adults. As far as snacks, they all have different tastes. They all like old fashioned uncooked oatmeal, romaine lettuce and chopped, not stalks of celery. Some like parsley, cilantro,
dandelions, yarrow, sweet bell peppers, strawberries, watermelon and rinds, cantaloupe, kale, oranges, apples. I never give them potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower. Make sure you don't give them a lot of food high in calcium because it can cause bladder and kidney stones. Stay away from the honey stick treats. It has a lot of junky things in it.
