We had one for several years, just watch his/her diet well and it will have a long life.

Dear Teresa,
I once owned a guinea pig and it was like the cutest pet ever.

I had one who lived over 12 years. Well past the 6 year mark. However all the others i had died at about 6-7 years. She even lived longer then her daughter who died of old age. I got her when she was 2 days old and I was 10. She died when I was 22 years old.

I had a guinea pig and she lived to be about 6 and a half years. The only reason she died was because her front teeth grew too long. So be sure to provide items for it to chew on because once they get too long there is nothing you can do and it will starve. My guinea pig was the best. They are such intelligent animals and are fairly easy to take care of and they very rarely bite.

I have found that they live about 3-5, but they can (and usually do) live longer with good care. make sure they have fresh hay (make sure there is no alfalfa for adult pigs), food, water, and not too many treats, along with lots of excersize and they should live a long and happy life.

The life span of a guinea pig is relatively short (usually 4 to 6 years but some can live a few years longer with proper care and handling).
