Q: What is a good way to do a fund drive to help exspand the shelter.

I tried to do this once and then the shelter owner screamed at me because I didn't get her 'approval'. So first things first make sure that the shelter 'wants' your help. If they are willing to allow you to find help for them the next thing you do is put out a plea in your area for donations or ANY sort. If the shelter is a registered 501 then everything anyone does can be a tax deduction. Hit up builders and businesses. Then hit up the boy scouts to help clean, feed stores to help with whatever overstock they have left. As what was mentioned, get the radio and tv stations to broadcast it. The more public you make the plea the better your chances are at getting people to help. Make SURE you have a list of things that you really need. Prioritize it!!!! Never turn ANY help down, it might not be exactly what you need but you can work it out.

FInd out which reporter at your local newspaper would cover that beat and send that reporter press releases on what you're trying to do. Also, local bloggers are really being read by lots of people. Write those bloggers and get them involved in spreading the word. Facebook and MySpace have a viral effect once you get the word out to a few people. Use those social networking sites to your advantage.
