Q: what do you do about a cat who chews on flip-flops?

Our cat Luca loves to chew on and ingest rubber flip-flops. We hide them, but she seeks them out. she chews off small pieces of them, sometimes enough where it makes her throw up. Any advice other than locking away our flip-flops?

Is Luca still in the teething stage?
If not, the best way to discourage such behavior is to offer other ‘legal’ chewing sources for your cat ~~ chewable soft toys. Have you tried plastic straws (fat ones especially)?
If all else fails have you considered the bitter apple spray to sray on your flippies?

Ingesting rubber flip-flops can be deadly. You really need to be on top of this problem. Have you seen the Kong toys that you can put kitty kibbles in? It takes a while for your cat to figure out how to get it out. You should probably invest in a wide array of kitty toys. A couple dozen cat toys are going to be lots cheaper than the vet bills if kitty gets sick from eating the flops.

I agree with the suggestions of offering her other toys and activities. But I would certainly do more than "hide" them the flip flops. I'd put them in a closet or up on a shelf away from her. Or outside my door if need be!
