If all pets are happy and healthy and receive the attention they want, you are not a hoarder.

I agree with those who say that there is no magic number of animals that makes a person a hoarder. It's all about the number of animals that that person personally has time to care for and financially can afford to feed and get vet care for. I have a friend who has 13 dogs in her house and you could never ever tell she even had pets if the dogs are out in the back yard, even though some of them are huge dogs. I have another friend who has two dogs and a cat and their house reeks and they don't provide the standard of care that I feel that companion animals need. If you can afford to spend time with and train and clean up after X amount of animals, and afford financially to get them the vet care required by law and needed per specific animal as well as buy them decent food, then it's not hoarding. If you can't afford the time or money to meet their basic care needs, then it could very well be

Hoarding is more than the number of animals you have. It has to do with whether or not the animals are being properly cared for.

I have 8 dogs, 4 cats, a bird, fish, turltes, and at least 150 animals at my rescue (RePets Animal Rescue) in which I am responisible for. I think a horder is one that keeps taking more with out being able to take care of them. Or keeps taking them and even thou they know they cant take of them they keep taking more out of love, but not the understanding that they are hurting them. a horders is someone that cant stop collecting and cant give anything up.

I just wanted to say that at least you clean them feed them they have their shots and they are not making more babies and of course giving them love not like real hoarders that are doing more bad than good. with so many homeless animals i think it is better there with you than at an over crowded shelter. If I had lots of money and a big house with a big yard i myself would be fostering and taking all strays in cuz i have lots of love for each and every one

Hoarding is not a number. If the animals are all well taken care of and happy and the conditions of the place are sanitary, there's nothing wrong with having lots of animals.

I consider a pet hoarder someone who has more animals than they can take care of. There houses are dirty, the animals are sick and/or skinny, and the animals are unsocialized due to lack of attention. And in most cases the hoarder is as bad off as the animals.

in my opinion, more that 5 animals is a hoarder. At some point, while they are all fed, they are not getting as much attention as they would love to have.
I am grateful that my mom did not have 20 kids to care for, we wouldnt have had as much fun...

I think that as long as all the pets are taken care of (vet visits included) and spayed/neutered it is ok. I wouldn't be looking for any more pets though.

there is no answer to your question... hoarding is not the number of animals but the number of animals for which your can provide. Please go to hamptonroads.com/2008/09/dozens-cats-taken-portsmouth-home to see what happened to our little shelter yesterday.
