Q: What can you tell me about Malamutes?

We are thinking about adopting a malamute-mix from a local rescue group. We just rehomed a German Shepherd-mix because of her aggression with other dogs and the neighborhood kids. What we need now is a dog that's good not just with our kids (which our first was), but also with other kids and other dogs! We're nervous to spend money on something else and let our kids get attached all over again.

This dog is three years old and is supposedly a malamute mix. I don't know much about them and only could find info on the AKC site. Is it true that they don't bark? (this was a problem with our neighbor with the last dog) How are they with kids, really? Is it likely that she'll be overprotective with our kids too? How are they on shedding?

Anything else? Just write back and let me know. We're not quite sure if we should take the chance or not. Help us tip the scales! :)

go to a bookstore or a local library and they may have a book about them if not go online on google and you will find your information that you need. but take into consideration that you will most likely have alot have alot of grooming to do with that breed of dog.

I had a malamute mix when I was in college and he was a wonderful dog. Mine did bark, but he was beautiful and highly intelligent. Try to find what he is mixed with, because that has a lot to do with temperment. Good luck.
