What can I do to get rid of snakes in my yard?

Can anyone tell me how I can safely get rid of snakes in my yard? I been seeing baby snakes, usually one at a time but that tells me there's a momma and maybe more somewhere else, when I take Boots out. With him being so small and close to the ground and almost on top of the snake by the time I see it I am terrified that he is going to get bit! Is there something I can put down around my house and yard to make them go away? I know nothing about snakes except I don't like them. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have used the moth balls. It works, but first make sure your pet won't eat them. The moth balls also keep the cats out of flower beds.

They make snake repellent. I havent used it myself though so I dont know how good it works. My son has used moth balls since it has the same stuff as the snake repellent, just not as much. Seems to work as long as you put a lot out, but it does stink for a while.

Check at your local hardware/home store. They should have the snake repellent or you can buy it online. I've also used the moth balls and it works. Like Jamie said though, make sure your pets cant get to them. They like to eat nasty smelling things, and moth balls would qualify.
