Q: what can help to keep house smelling fresh from dogs urine?

September 9, 2008 | By Niblets27 | 6 answers | Expired: 2186 days ago

i have 3 yorkies. they usually pee on thier wee pads but somestimes they'll have acccidents and pee anywhere.. When they pee on the pads they sometimes step on wet part and walk away from pads leaving tracks on the floor. During the day i make it sure if i see them i follow and spray it with the urine gone products. I have tried so many different sprays and products i even use a air purifier/cleaner , i have those gonzos crystal odor elimunator, i have those plug ins fresheners and mapping the floors with disinfectant urine gone but still the smell seems to stay inside the house. we dont really have carpetswe only have wood floors and tiles. I have to do cleaning up 2-3xs per day. i tried training them to go outside and pee but it seems they dont want to do it outside. I just need to know if you have used a products that is better than the ones i have. for indoor freshener. thank you

Teach those pups to go outside! The easiest way is to stick to a schedule for feeding and watering, feed twice daily and water 3-4x daily, let them outside or walk them right afterward, and take up the food and water before you walk or let them out. Once they get used to the schedule you can leave the water out all day and you won't need the pee pads.

I agree. Outside training is the best. My dog hates to go outside sometimes, but you just have to take them out anyway and work with them. My roommates does have two different sprays for the carpet/flooring. I am not sure if this will help since you have hard wood floors and tiles, but one is a scent to make them go, and the other is a scent that will make them sneeze if they sniff it, so they wont go. You can also buy those little posts or decorative fire hydrants for your yard that have a scent that draws the dog to want to go in that area. Also, walk them around outside in a specific area each time. If you let them wander as far as they want, it will take them forever to go. My dog goes in her litle area outside each time and thats wat she prefers. Then again, not one thing works for every dog, but trust me, we still have accidents and I am still working with her. It can be a pain at times, but they are worth it. I am not sure if this helped, but good luck to you!

Simone peed throughout my house when I was training her (we had carpet). i have had Sear's come in and clean carpets using he pet freshener and it helped a bit. but the reality is the smell really hasn't gone away and it has been 3 years. I agree that you need to do your best to get them trained to go outside. Crate training is the best option for that.
