i'd imagine. people do keep insects as pets - such as hissing cockroaches and praying mantids. maybe someone should try to turn in an ant farm to their local shelter and see what happens.

There are a few rescues that take all species including exotics like tarantulas & scorpions. Someone has to be versed in the care of those species & have the proper facilities to house them, so not all rescues can & will do that. That's a very specific type of rescue & I've never heard of a massive need for it. Mostly enthusiasts advertise that they'll adopt your unwanted tarantulas, scorpions, etc. Where these creatures get in trouble mostly is at the dealers who warehouse them, sell them & ship them out all over the world. If you know of species like this that need to be rescued, you should contact the SPCA or your state wildlife rescue.

"Open Door" shelters--wherever they may be found--supposedly accept ALL animals...and maybe even "pet insects and pet bugs".

But insects and bugs tend to have short life spans--so, do you REALLY think there is much, if any, need for a "shelter" to accommodate them????

[P.S. I think Daryl will accept pet insects and bugs, but she has their natural predators flying around the house!!!]
