Q: What About Cats?

I just was curious as to know what everyone's opinion is on dressing up cats it little outfits, of course most cats probably would not tolarate it if at all and if they did not for very long. Teddy use to have a collar and I would put it on her but she would take it off after a few minutes. As for Shorty one time I put Skitters collar on him just to see his reaction since I was leash training him I wanted to know how he would react cause I would use a harrness but have a collar and lisence on him just in case, but he heard the lisence's on the collar and it freaked him out he took off into my room and took off the collar. So what do you think about dressing cats up?

ever try to condition a cat to wear a harness? and at least that has the perks of finally being allowed outside. i'll slip a necklace on my kitties for a cute pic or just for funsies, but even that has it's shelf life. all good things must come to an end - that's a pretty solid cat motto.

my husband tries it occasionally. most will not tolerate it, even if bribed with treats. Scooter, however, can be bribed, but then he's a very unusual cat.

if you want to *try* "dressing up" a cat, it's probably best to stick to little things like collars (ex, the ones that look like neckties or bow ties) or small things rather than going full-scale. when we fostered George the kitten, my husband (who really is an odd critter himself) tried dressing him up in a little angel costume. if i hadn't been there, i don't think he ever would have gotten that kitten out of the costume on this own. safety first, always!

I suppose one could start dressing up a cat when it is a kitten, thereby enabling the cat to grow up accustomed to wearing clothing. However, I'm sure the clothing is uncomfortable and something the cat would prefer to do without. I can see maybe placing a hat and/or cape on a cat to take a photo, but don't like the idea of making cats wear clothes--it's unnatural.
