it all depends on your personality. you want a dog that fits you. if your not energetic you wont want an australian sheperd or a lab. if your energetic for example you dont want a basset hound.

The best kind of dog is the dog that is made to do the job you want him to do.

If you have a cattle ranch - you may want a herding dog, if you want a quiet house dog, look in the non-sporting group. If you hunt, you probably want a hunting dog. If you want to compete, you may want a retriever or sighthound. If you want a kid-dog, look for service dogs.

Mutts are great too. If you know what breeds make up your mutt, it will help in predicting behavior and training.

I tend to like what people call "dangerous" breeds, when in reality, they are not. I guess I always like to root for the "underdog"-pun intended! Pit bulls are my absolute favorite, but I adore mutts too!

my faves go to australian shepherds {big surprise there, right?}, bernese mountain dogs, nova scotia duck tolling retrievers, golden retrievers, and shiloh shepherds {which is a massive german shepherd}.

my self i love the newfs and border colies. even though the newfs are so mellow they can live in a small hole. they do shed a lot and the border collie needs room for exercize and something to keep them occupied.
