As long as you have someone come over to check on her. If nobody is going to be checking on her, then board her.

I think its fine as long as you have someone come check on her a couple of times while you are gone. I have left my cats for 5-6 days and 10 days over christmas and just had a friend come check on them every other day. I would just leave out lots of water and food and put an extra litter box or 2 out as well. I shut the doors to rooms so they don't get trapped accidentaly because I did have that happen once and my cats were trapped for a few days and I was so lucky nothing happened to them!

independent as cats can be, a lot can happen in 5 days. a co-worker of mine was cat-sitting for some people about a year ago, and one day she arrived at their house to find a huge mess. there was poop everywhere, and she found the cat half dead. turns out the cat had been trying to pass a particularly bad hairball and suffered a rectal prolapse. my co-worker was able to get the kitty to the vet in time to save it, but imagine if something like this happened 2 days into your 5-day trip and nobody knew until you got home! granted this kind of things could happen any time...it could happen while you're at work today, but to leave a cat completely unattended for 5 days...that's an awfully big gamble. maybe a co-worker or neighbor could check on them daily. maybe one of your neighbors has an older, responsible, trustworthy kid who would like to make a few bucks by checking in on the cat for you daily, refreshing water, scooping out the litter box, playing with kitty, etc.

5 days with no one looking in on her to make sure everything is OK, what abut an emergency ? They are living creatures, I know people that have a friend go on to water their plants !!!
