Q: travel dog in a tent?

Have you traveled and slept in a tent with your dog? How about wild life coming by at night? What if the dog gets reacted? I am thinking about summer travel/camping to Canada.

I have camped with my dogs before. My one dog LOVES it and the other would prefer a hotel.
Make sure to get them used to the tent prior to your trip.
Feed some meals in the tent and maybe even spend an hour reading a book in it to teach dog to relax inside. It can be scary for some dogs as they really can't see out.

We camped several times with Jas (RIP) when she was younger and no one got too much sleep because she was so interested in what was going on outside the tent. She didn't bark, just some whining. Last summer I camped in our backyard with Karlie and Anna one night and it was a similar situation. It's really fun to do so I would recommend it, but you might want to test it out in your backyard first to see how your dog does.

I have been camping several times in the back woods of Maine and have brought a dog almost everytime and had no problems. He barked at a moose once and it scared the moose away and thats about it. At night he has never reacted to anything.

I through-hiked the Appalachian trail in 1968, and had a dog with me all the way. We spent 4 months and 4 days in either a tent or an Adirondack shelter. Never had any problems.

Also, if your dog does get excited due to wildlife you'll want to calmly pet him or her and quietly say it'll be ok.

We took 2 of our dogs (the 3rd gets car-sick) camping with us and they both did great. And, it was the first time they had ever been. They slept in the tent with us and it was the wildlife, not the dogs, that interrupted our sleep. Have fun!

We have taken our dog tent camping and cabin camping. Cabin camping is better sleeping for everyone.

We have taken our dog Maddie camping twice. She paced alot and every sound stirred her so if your not a sound sleeper I think you may have a few nights that are sleepless. Hope this helps and good luck.
