Q: Tips on selecting a treadmill to use with my dogs

I am interested in purchasing a tread mill for exercising my dogs when the weather outside is too hot & humid or rainy (we live in Southeast Texas). Does anyone who uses a treadmil for their dog(s) have any suggestions on selecting one? Brands, models, pros, cons, how they've held up, etc.? There are a lot of great brands and models out there, but how do they hold up to a dogs claws and lots of use? Thanks for any feedback! I appreciate your time!

is there some place in the house you could play with them? we have a SMALL 1200 sq. ft. ranch and madison still has room to "run laps" and we play fetch up and down the hall. tread mills sound VERY dangerous.

They actually make treadmills that are table top size just for dogs ( you can use them on the floor too) that are made for apartments that are small. It really doesn't matter what kind as long as it has a very slow speed for the beginner dog. They are not dangerous if you use common sense. Never tie the dog on and never leave the dog unattended. Use a leash that you hold while you train the dog to use it. My sisters once crazy Sheltie gets on by herself and barks for my sister to turn it on. She runs for about an hour and then jumps off when shes done. She's a much calmer dog now that she has more excersise. If you've seen the Dog Whisperer you'll see him use them a lot for dogs that need to burn a lot of energy.
