Q: Thinking of a being a "puppy raiser"...
I am considering being a puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes and I was told that in all likelyhood I would be raising a Lab pup. I actually do not have experience with this breed and was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions.

Labs are great dogs, one of the most comonly used dogs for people with disabilities. They ate very obidiant, but a little hyper, so exercise is necesary!! They love to swim and retrieve. They live from ten to twelve years.

They will give you guidelines as to how you will need to train the puppy and all the things you need to do with it. Labs need a lot of exercise and good strong chew toys such as Nylabone or Kong. This is very exciting for you. I would definitely read up on all you can about labs. Labs are great dogs when properly trained so just remember patience and consistency.

Labs are an amazing breed with so much to offer. They are highly intelligent and I applaud you for considering raising a puppy. Lab puppies really won't be too different than any other, and don't worry because the program will make sure you know all that you will ever need or care to know about your puppy. The work that you will do is a very hard and time consuming one but it will be an experience that will be immensely rewarding. Good Luck and God bless you.
