The best ways to care for single male gerbil?

I was intending on getting a pair of gerbils but when I got to the pet store there was one little guy left and although they said they were getting more in, this little guy would be on his own and someone would have to take him and it was going to be me. He is in a 10 gallon glass aquarium with a secured mesh top. He has a water bottle, solid wheel, salt wheel, ceramic food dish with hamster/gerbil food mix, lots of chew sticks and an edible log house and pine bedding. I will be getting him a more enclosed wooden house like he had in the store and a bag of softer bedding to mix in. I am looking for suggestions on anything else like food/treat ideas, toys etc. to make sure he has a very long and happy life. His name is Oliver ~

I would get Oliver a hamster ball put him in it when your at home and let him explore the house in it, also get some card board and you know how some people will make mazes for mice and put cheese at the end of them make a maze and put his favorite treat at the end of the maze and let him find his way to the end and make sure you are giving him enough attention you know like holding him and petting him.
