Q: Strong Chew Toys

My Dobie chews through all the toys I buy her, including the Kong toys. Does anyone know of anything that is good for chewing that can't be destroyed in a sitting or two?

Areally good choice for tough chewers are Nylabones. I have two Labs that are aggressive chewers and these last a really long time. Their favorite ones are the chicken flavored ones. You can purchase tham at Wal*Mart or any pet store.

Our dog will chew through chew toys in minutes. We do use Kong but it doesn't last long. To make them last longer we bought an extreme kong in a larger size. Then we pack the Kong really well and freeze it. This does help them last a little longer.

We have also used a Nylabone the white one that is chicken flavored not the ediable ones. The edible ones are gone in minutes. We do buy the bone in a larger size then recommended however.

Her favorite, and they last the longest are the beef marrow bones. Even though the marrow will be gone after several hours of chewing she continues to chew on the bones. The first one we got for her about 6 months ago is just starting to show some wear but not to much.
Good luck!

Sterilized bones from the grocery store last a while, but they may chip your dogs teeth and eventually the bone will chip away.

I use stuffed kongs, but I collect them when my dog isn't using them (in an effort to make them last longer). I also let my dog chew on raw beef knuckle bones from the butcher. These are big hunks of bone that the dogs will love to chew on, they should be inexpensive, and will last a while before they should be taken away.

I buy the beef marrow bones at the grocery store. They are very strong. My pit bull and Mastiff really enjoy them. Just be sure to take the marrow out after a couple of days in that it can sour. I restuff the bone with peanut butter once the marrow is gone.

Hello:

The kong didn't work for our Lab/German Shepherd either. We found a toy similar to the Kong at Wal-Mart. I can't remember the exact name off the top of my head, but it is shaped like a fire hydrant and ours are in green and red. We have had them for quite some time now and they are holding up very well.

Our Lab/Golden plays fetch and chews on hers all the time.
