Does anyone know why this female squrriel gets a jolly out of teasing my dog? this squrriel will sit and wait for my dog to chase it. She has caught it by the tail once before and it still harasses her. It chuckles at her and stares at her. It likes all of us and the only other one it does it to is my step dad. It harasses my dog mostly though does anyone know why and why it didnt stop after my dog bit it. Also Skitters is never tied up because the yard is fenced.

Not sure why but my grandmother had a dog that would run to the tree jump and bark, then a squriel would come down just out of her reach and chattler at her. This would go on for about five minetes then both would turn and leave. This went on for several years until the squriel quite comming. Grandpa said they were discussing events of the night.

i agree with jillian but there is also the food issue. she may asociate you and food. i would also wonder if the dog is tied at times and can't get to the squirrele and the squirrel knows that and slipped up that time

you said that the squirrel likes you guys, as in she enjoys your company? squirrels can be incredibly social - my brothers girlfriend has even gotten squirrels to sit on her lap while she pets them, i call her the squirrel whisperer - so my guess is this squirrel has taken to you and your family and sees your yard as her territory. your dog is probably considered a threat that the squirrel is trying to force out of her territory. in other similar species, harassment can sometimes push a larger predator away from the smaller, less threatening animals. try teaching your dog "watch me" and "leave it" commands if you worry she may go after the squirrel again.
