Q: Skitters Black Nail?
My dog Skitters has one black nail on one of her paws is there an easier way to tell were to clip it than just making a geuss by looking at one of the other nails. We don't take her to the groomer because it is already hard to keep her calmed down to clip her nails in the first place also she is an older dog with a collapsing triekia so we don't want her to get to overwelmed and have breathing problems.

start by cutting the tip and then check the bottom of the nail, look for a black dot, if none cut a little more always just to see the black dot, when you see it stop that is the begining of the quick. Always have quick stop on hand just incase you trim to short. Remember just a little at a time.

My dog has the same issue. I use the pedi paws on her. She doesn't stress as much and it files the nail as opposed to cutting it so you don't get the quick. I turned it on and just let her "check it out" a couple times before I used it on her so she could get used to the sound. Hope that helps.

One of the ways I have heard you can use is to put a flashlight under the animals nail it can shine through the nail, showing you where the quick is
