Q: Should I change my dog's diet?

My dog seems happy to eat the same old thing everyday. Wouldn’t he like some variety?

Be happy your dog does not have the finicky tastes preferences of some cats. Do not change dog diets unnecessarily.

Although dogs’ sense of smell is finely tuned (they can distinguish thousands of different odors) their sense of taste is not so much. Canine taste buds are located in the mucous membranes of the tongue, palate and pharynx — but humans have 12 times as many taste buds.

Chances are, your dog accepts his food because it smells “good “ and not on the basis of taste.
