Q: Shedding...Suggestions?

What methods for reducing shedding have you found that work best. Our lab has always been a big shedder and he sheds year round. Our beagle normally only sheds during the summer. This year both of their shedding has seemed to be increasing more and more. Everything in my house in covered in hair no matter how often I clean. The hair doesn't bother me too much - I have dogs - I know there is always going to be dog hair. But as I said it just seems to be getting worse and worse so I would love to know what products, treatments, and such have worked for others.

I'm a greyhound person long story but I rescued a Black Lab 2 yrs ago, hair just fell out as she walked., took er to Vet wen I got her they all go when I get a new dog Even the greys and they come with all their records but the Lab was from SPCA, Vet told me Labs molt 2x a year, told him Annie was doing it daily, he's a Lab owner he just laughed and said she is not your grey, took all her tests and got rid of all the worms.ear infections, I forget what else she had, then he felt the fur and said he's like to test her for thyroid most of the greys have its no biggie solixine isn't really expensive but I just thught it was a greyhound thing, well she's on a stronger dose than the greys,, she's not as nervous, no more fear aggression, and the shedding even in this heat is cut in 1/2, she's also on a high quality kibble Versus fish, potato & Omega 3 it holistic and it's mixed with a good wet food just a spoonful, people think the holistic is too expensive, the secret is that even though the bag say's to feed the same as other foods, my 3 are 4 cups a day 2 in am & 2 in pm, with the holistic and no additives in it my nutritionist said 1 in am & 1 in pm also I give slices of cored apples as treats ( seeds are poison to them) and add string beans & carrots to kibble 1x a week I get a bad of string beans & carrots(frozen) cook them, put in fridg and take a bit and add to their food, go slow or they'll get the poops, shedding hardly any considering she's a Lab, never had a problem with greys, Lab was nervous & and fear aggression, she'll always be nervous, so is 1 grey but is 70% better and their is no more fear aggression, also don't brush all the time, may 1x a week or week and 1/2, too much brushing can stimulate and make it worse. Good Luck

I haven't invested in the Furminator yet but I'm glad to hear some respected comments about it. My golden (which they say shed's their coat twice a year) shed's year round here in Florida. I was getting worse due to the extreme heat but after changing him to Eagle Pack Holistic Anchovy,Sardine and Salmon it seems to have subsided. Maybe it's my imagination but diet is a big part of just about everything.

Regular brushing (at least every other day when your dog is shedding) and using the Furminator www.furminator.com (which I spelled wrong in my product review) www.zootoo.com/dogs_grooming/furliminator will really help.

Scratching her back and massaging her will also help loosen the hair, as will a nice bath using your fingers to "dig" down into the coat and coax it to loosen.

Brush, brush, brush!

Also a high quality diet helps a lot, too.

The Furminator does work- have to use it often- our puggle sheds a lot- we get her shaved about every 6-8 weeks- has cut down the shedding by 80% ask your groomer if they has any suggestions- also ask your vet- you might add a supplement to their diets like fish oil- I hear that works
