Shasta is my dad's American Eskimo he adopted her out of rescue a couple years ago she is a retired champion show dog the owner who gave her up even gave the rescue all her trophies, Ribbons awards and they gave them her papers too Shasta needs some retraining I was wondering what the best way to do retraining with a retired Show dog? Also I was wondering what I need to do if I ever want to have one of my dogs in a dog show I know I need the papers but what else do I need to do I would want to be in the ring with the dog I want a Borzoi some day so if I get one that will be the dog I train and show Please let me know?

You would train an retired show dog just like you train any other dog...work on their bad habits and reinforce their good ones. Check out the American Kennel Club's website: akc.org . It has all the resources you need to help you figure out the requirements for showing dogs. You can also contact your local kennel club for info, as well as your local library. They should have books on handling and showing dogs. It's also helpful to attend several shows to get a feel for the atmosphere, what goes on, how people conduct themselves, etc. Having a mentor who already knows the ropes and can guide you through is very helpful also.

The thing about shows is the dog has to be intact, so that could be a predicament in ethics for you. But there are also many smaller scale shows, often for charity, that are truly just for the fun of showing and allows fixed dogs, you'd just have to look into what your area provides.
To show her, work on her patience and attention while you're learning and practicing your own handling skills. It's just as much about the person learning as it is the dog. Just look up any reputable handler and ask for literature on how it's done.

when my friends newfs were done showing we took them to obeience class. there is a big difference. if you want to show find a class that teaches that. or google something about it there maybe someone in your area who would be willing to take you under their wing. good luck maybe someday we will see you on tv
