Q: Red bumps at the base of my dogs tail

My dog has been biting the base of his tail lately and when I looked at it there were about 5 bumps about 1/2 centimeter each. The area looks dry and a bit raw. I don't want to put a topical cream on it because he would lick it off. Can someone tell me what they are and what I can do, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

they are most likey from some kind of worm or mite that stays under the skin. or they could be ticks that have burrod under the skin. i know you dont want to put cream on it, but i would put benadryl on the site. thats what we did with my dog. if you dont want him to eat it, than go to the vet or a pet store. tell them about your problem and the will most likely tell you to buy a cone for him. that will keep him from biting the tail. hope this helps!

Sounds to me like he's got fleas....I usually use K-9 Advantix, as it not only kills the fleas, but the eggs & ticks too.

flea's are really bad, cause it is so dry. Try some Aloe?
