Basic Dog Biscuit Recipe
1 1/2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
1/2 Cup Quick Oats
2/3 Cup Skim Milk
3 T Canola Oil
Instructions:
Pour skim milk into large mixing bowl. Add oats and allow to sit for 5 minutes. Mix in Canola oil. Mix in flour 1/2 cup at a time until a stiff dough forms. Place on floured surface and roll to desired thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Bake at 350 degrees. If rolled to 3/8" baking time is 30 to 35 minutes..or until a golden brown.
Tip: After shutting off the oven I leave the dog biscuits in the oven for a couple hours to make sure they are completely dry and crunchy. Then they can be stored for a long time with out worrying about spoilage.
Variations: The flavor of this easy dog treat recipe can be changed by simply using beef or chicken broth in place of the skim milk. I use low sodium, 99% fat free broth.
found online at www.gourmet-dog-treat-recipes.com/easy-dog-treat-recipe.html they emphasize that you know what NOT to put in dog treats before you make them also. No sugar, chocolate, grapes raisins etc. Know your foods to avoid list before you do it!

try warming up some chicken and then putting some peanut butter in the middle. those two things seem to be favriotes around my dog Skitters, my grandma's dog Cricket and my dad's dog Shasta. I think the two would work even better together.

I don't have a specific suggestion for a book, but I do highly suggest looking for an organic doggy biscuit cookbook :)
